Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures (Keeping in this for one more week!):

We would like to thank the large majority of our families who are abiding by our traffic patterns, especially during morning and afternoon commute. For the safety of our students, crossing guard, and automobiles, we ask that when you leave campus between 8:00 am - 9:00 am and 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm, that you turn right. Please do not turn left. Linked below you will find a copy of our traffic pattern.

see this map for directions

Please note, if you ever need to reference this pattern in the future, we do keep it in our “BMS Standing Items” section found below.

Strategic Planning Parent Focus Group:

We are in the process of developing a new strategic plan that will guide our district’s goals, programmatic decisions, and budgetary process for the next five years. As the parent/guardian of a Barrington Middle School student, your perspective is needed to help envision the future of Barrington Public Schools.

Please join G&D Associates, our strategic planning partner, for a focus group conversation with BMS families on Tuesday, January 23, at 6:30 PM.

  • What: Strategic Plan Focus Group for BMS Parents

  • When: Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at 6:30 PM

  • Where: Barrington Middle School Student Union

If you are unable to attend Tuesday night’s focus group in person, there will be an opportunity for you to participate in a virtual discussion with a consultant from G&D Associates at a later date. More information, including Zoom links, will be shared soon.

Sports Nights:

We are excited to inform you that this Friday, January 26, 2024 we will be having a Sports Night from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm for all grades (6th grade, 7th grade, and 8th grade). Below you will find some helpful information to make the event safe and fun for everyone!

What are Sports Nights?

  • Sports Nights are opportunities for students to socialize outside of school hours.

  • A DJ provides music in the student union and the large gymnasium is open for basketball and other games. In addition, we will have board games, organized games, and quiet areas for students to play and relax. Proceeds from ticket sales and snack sales go to the student council and clubs/clusters that are hosting the event.

  • Sports Nights are chaperoned by the Principal, Assistant Principal, Teachers, and Staff.

What are Sports Nights Procedures/Expectations:

  • Only BMS students may attend.

  • Students need to be present all day during the day of a Sports Night to attend.

  • Tickets are $5 at the door. It is helpful for students to have exact change.

  • Students may bring additional money for snacks.

  • Drop off: Front loop or side parking lot; not before 6:50pm.

  • Pick up: Students are dismissed at 9:00 pm. Parents may pick up in the front loop or side of the building.

  • Cell phone rules: No cell phone use in Sports Night. If students need to make a call, please have your child see one of the chaperones.

  • If for some reason a student needs to leave early, the student may only be picked up by his/her family member. Students will not be able to go home early from a Sports Night with another parent.

Sports Night Accommodations:

Please complete the below form if your child is in need of accommodations for our upcoming sports night planned for Friday, January 26, 2024.

BMS Parent Learning Walk:

Dr. Anderson will be hosting several “Family Learning Walks” throughout the year to provide an opportunity for families to see Project Based Learning in action and to get a glimpse of the life of a BMS student. Our next Learning Walk is scheduled for Thursday, February 8, 2024. Register for this and other Parent Learning Walk dates on this form.  We will need to limit it to 20 parents, and it will be a first come, first served basis. Please note, this visit is not to your child’s classroom, but rather to see teaching and learning happening throughout the school.

Winter Workouts will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays right after school from 3:15 pm - 4:15 pm beginning on January 23rd and running through the end of Feb or early March (end on Feb 29 or March 5th).  Workouts are held in the BMS Student Union and students should arrive ready to workout.  Use this link to sign up and bring the attached waiver.

BMS Community Service Club, Blanket Drive:

The BMS Community Service Club is launching the “Swarm of Warm” donation drive.  We are officially in the month of January, which is known for being a cold month and so many families need some resources.  We are seeking donations of blankets and socks.  We ask that the blankets be washed and gently used and the socks should be brand new.  The drive begins this Thursday, January 18 and ends Friday, January 26.  Donations will be given to the Barrington Tap-In program.  Click here for the “Swarm of Warm” flier.

~ BMS Spotlight on Learning ~

This week, we would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Ms. Abigail Halnon. Abby is an amazing resource teacher, we share students in grade 6 and they have all made excellent progress with her. She also has a calm demeanor which helps decrease student anxiety and helps them feel confident in Math. She has developed meaningful connections with her students and they are excited about learning. Abby has been wonderful to collaborate with and BMS is lucky to have her.

Do you know of a BMS Faculty/Staff/Student member that is shining bright? If you do, please complete the form below and we can include the nomination in an upcoming newsletter.
