This new and exciting BMS enrichment program "Aequora", is designed for students in grades 6th-8th who are interested in learning more about Latin and Roman Mythology and Culture. The program uses Latin as a vehicle to deepen students' understanding of both English and Spanish and acts as a great primer for anyone interested in studying Latin at the high school later, in addition to strengthening overall literacy in English. The Aequora program will be taught by Kelly Smith (BHS World Language Teacher) and BHS Latin students.

In this enrichment class students will focus on the fundamentals of rowing. Athletes will learn the language of rowing and the technique of the rowing stroke through various drills and exercises. In addition, athletes will build cardiovascular endurance and strength through cross-training work. Using BMS's WaterRowers as well as 10 more machines generously donated by WaterRower, athletes will be able to feel the connection of the stroke through the water. This program introduces a new sport that many young athletes have not participated in. This early introduction to rowing may encourage further interest in participation on the water with East Bay Rowing.

~ BMS Spotlight on Learning ~

This week, we would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Ms. Abigail Halnon. Abby is an amazing resource teacher, we share students in grade 6 and they have all made excellent progress with her. She also has a calm demeanor which helps decrease student anxiety and helps them feel confident in Math. She has developed meaningful connections with her students and they are excited about learning. Abby has been wonderful to collaborate with and BMS is lucky to have her.

Do you know of a BMS Faculty/Staff/Student member that is shining bright? If you do, please complete the form below and we can include the nomination in an upcoming newsletter.
