Common Sense Media-Family Media Agreement
https://d1e2bohyu2u2w9.cloudfront.net/education/sites/default/files/common_sense_family_media_agreement.pdf

Dear Parents and Families,
Technology has become such an integral part of our lives in the school, home, and community environments. While there are numerous advantages, we have also noticed that some students and their families struggle to find a balance with screen usage and that this can become a point of contention between students and adults. We would like to offer you some information about children and screen usage, and provide some tips that may be beneficial to you in setting appropriate limits.
One of the most important aspects of our library Common Sense Media digital citizenship unit is learning to balance screen time with other life activities. We want to help you ensure the safety of you and your family which includes providing rules, structure, and expectations around screen usage and internet safety. The Common Sense Media Family Media Agreement is an excellent way to pledge clear expectations for media use and screen time.
The following articles contain research and resources to help you make informed decisions about media and device use in your family. You can also reach out to the school and we will be glad to work with you on providing parameters for technology usage, particularly with the school issued Chromebooks.
Thank you,
Rebekah Malone, School Psychologist

HMS PTO meeting tonight @ 6:30. A link will be sent to your email at 6:15.

As this year has come with many changes, and the school calendar has been set by the state, it will make it difficult to have an in-person parent-teacher conference day for every family as we have in the past.
For this school year, there will not be a “formal” parent-teacher conference day at HMS. In lieu of this, you will receive a progress report at the end of the first trimester (December), in addition to the regular weekly communication you receive from your child’s teacher. As always at HMS, if your child’s teachers need to touch base beyond the traditional communication, they will contact you to set up a virtual meeting. This meeting if requested may likely be on 11/19/20.
Thank you for your support!

Tracey A. McGee
Principal - HMS

Good Afternoon,
Drop off and dismissal are getting better EVERY DAY! Many thanks to you and our amazing teachers who are also helping!
Reminder: Please be sure you have your child's name prominently written and placed in the passenger dashboard or window for dismissal/car pick up ! It takes about 15 minutes on average from the time we let the first car in to the last one to leave! This will only get faster with time! Great job everyone!

Preparing for Day 2- MORNING DROP OFF!
This will be the day that ALL children will be in attendance so we are reviewing the procedures for drop off once again.
There are a few important things we need to address in order to create routines that will keep all students and staff safe, healthy and happy.
The front circle is reserved for buses until 7:35. Do not come to school earlier than your designated time. No cars are allowed in the circle prior to 7:35. If there is a bus in the circle, please do not enter.
Once you do enter the circle, pull ALL the way up to the first spot where you can stop and your child can get out of the car on the passenger side.
No matter where in the circle your child gets out of the car, they can proceed to their designated door.
You will then drive to the exit and take a right turn. Do not turn around in the neighborhood streets.
Again, we thank you for your patience and understanding as we opened up for the 2020-2021 school year. We truly appreciate the kind words and support you have given to us and it was especially rewarding to see so many smiling eyes enter the building.

FAMILIES, PLEASE READ IMMEDIATELY
IN PREPARATION FOR PICK-UP (Day One)
*Buses will be lined up in front of the building by 2:10 and we will begin loading at 2:15.
*Buses will be called and will depart once loaded.
*After the buses have left the school grounds, walkers and bikers will be dismissed.
*AFTER WALKERS AND BIKERS HAVE BEEN DISMISSED CAR PICK UP WILL BEGIN - PLEASE DO NOT ENTER THE CIRCLE IF THERE ARE STILL BUSES LINED UP
*LABEL THE FRONT PASSENGER WINDOW OF YOUR CAR WITH YOUR CHILD'S NAME IN BOLD PRINT
*Students will be escorted out the library and lobby doors and lined up in front of the building practicing social distancing and will enter the passenger side of the cars.
*Like the morning, you must take a right onto Kent Street upon exiting the circle. Please do not turn around on side streets.

Please be sure you have completed this important form for both IN PERSON LEARNERS or DISTANCE LEARNERS ! The student attestation form is at the bottom of the form.

May 10, 2020
Dear HMS Students and Families,
We hope you are all well. As you know, schools in Rhode Island will be closed until June 18 with distance learning continuing until the end of the school year. To continue ELA instruction, we need to provide our fourth grade students with the text Through My Eyes by Ruby Bridges .
Over the next few days, beginning on Monday, May 11th, district bus drivers will drop books off at each of your homes to support our ELA program. Please note the precautions taken in preparing the books for your children:
Preparation:
Books have been stored at HMS for nearly 6 weeks without any human contact.
Mr. Sangiuliano collected the books practicing social distancing, wearing a mask, washing his hands, and wearing gloves before handling them.
Books were placed into new gallon sealable bags using the same practices by Mrs. Dwyer and Mrs. Levesque.
They then placed labels on each bag with the student's name and address.
Delivery:
District bus drivers who will deliver the books will collect the books from HMS, where they practiced social distancing and wore masks and gloves.
District bus drivers will drop the book(s) in their bags at the student's doorstep based on the address printed on the label (from aspen).
Received:
When receiving your book(s), please do not greet the district bus drivers. It is essential to continue to practice social distancing.
Do not handle the bag right away.
When you do handle the bag, dispose of the bag right away.
Spray/wipe books with a chemical known to kill COVID-19.
After you have thrown the bag away and sprayed/wiped the book, wash your hands with soap/water for at least 20 seconds.
Below are additional resources/information on what to do when you receive a package:
Washing Hands CDC
I want to thank the many people for making this book distribution happen in these extraordinary times. Thank you, Mr. Messore and Dr. Dillon, for granting us permission to prepare and deliver the books. Thank you, Hampden Meadows teachers, for working together to provide our students with instruction that is as close as possible to being in school. Thank you, Mrs. Dwyer and Mrs. Levesque, for checking the books out to all of the students and placing them in their bags with care. Thank you, Mrs.Resendes, for preparing the maps/routes for our district drivers and coordinating the delivery. Lastly, thank you, district drivers, who deliver the books to our students.
Sincerely,
Tracey A. McGee, Principal

You are invited to attend a family book club meeting! This is a great opportunity for you and your child to be exposed to literature and open a wonderful dialogue. Even if you are unable to attend the meeting, sharing a book is a great way to connect with your child.
What you need to know:
You are responsible for securing a copy of the book
WE REALIZE GETTING A COPY OF THE BOOK MIGHT BE A CHALLENGE. IF YOU ARE HAVING TROUBLE PLEASE CONTACT MISS MACLAUGHLIN AND SHE CAN HELP YOU
The purpose of this club is to have a shared experience with your child
This could mean reading the book with or to your child, or individually. Either way the most important aspect is the discussion that it will generate. Both the adult and child are expected to read the book, attend, and participate equally during the meeting, remember this is a shared experience. The adult can be a parent, grandparent, aunt or uncle, anyone!

HMS Week 2 Distance Learning
Dear Teachers, Parents and Students,
It is with deep gratitude that I write to you all this morning. The support of all parents in our scurry to provide high-quality on-line distance teaching and learning has been undeniably one of our foundational cornerstones. The teachers worked through their unpredicted vacation week as a true professional learning community to learn new internet platforms, learn new and best practices for virtual learning that keeps children engaged and passionate. We experienced some potholes but we bypassed them with success. It is heartwarming to see how dedicated all the parents and teachers have been working night and day for the benefit of the children.
I am blessed to be a part of a community that bonds together to support each other recognizing the importance of showing our children how to deal with productive struggle, perseverance, and passion for learning. While we may be physically separated, we are growing together in a very special way.
I hope everyone had a healthy weekend, made family memories and got some sunshine in on Saturday! What did you do that was new, different and out of the ordinary? By weekday, I am an elementary school principal, by weekend, a fire pit builder and an interior painter! Definitely new and different for me!
Last week, you all ROCKED it! Let's grab hold of this week and attack it with the vigor you did last week!
Please feel free to contact me with any questions via email so I may be a support to you!
Wash, wash, wash your hands!

After consulting with the most recent guidelines provided by the State concerning best practices around preventing the spread of COVID-19, we are postponing tonight's Girls' Puberty Night at Hampden Meadows, PTO Bingo night at Sowams, and Art's Night at Primrose. This evening, Barrington Public Schools will engage in a statewide conference call updating us on the best practices for PK-12 Schools in Rhode Island. After the conference call, we will send out a more formal communication about events occurring throughout our District over the next few weeks. If Barrington receives additional information during the conference call, we will share that with you as well on our dedicated page: https://www.barringtonschools.org/article/198359?org=barrington-schools
Sincerely,
Michael Messore, III
Superintendent Barrington Public Schools

GIRLS NIGHT INFO- We understand that there are concerns about COVID-19. At this time, the RIDOH is recommending that people practice caution when meeting in groups—that they do not attend if sick—and that they avoid shaking hands or hugging. They have not yet recommended cancelling events. In light of that, we plan to hold the Girls Puberty Night this Wednesday, March 11, from 6:15-7:30. If you or your child feels ill, we ask that you please stay home.
If you are uncomfortable attending a public event due to other factors, you are encouraged to check out The Care and Keeping if You, Volume 1, and attend next year when Dr. Douglas returns for her 9th Puberty Night!
If there are updates to the RIDOH recommendations, we will notify you ASAP—so please check our website before coming out Wednesday night.
